Vari Tube Compressor

dynamic out of control - no more

The extremely short signal flow within the Vari Tube Compressor is completely built with tube technology. In addition to input and output transformer the signal only runs through two tube amplifier stages. These elements provide signals with a very sophisticated and special sound which already polished a lot of recordings. The particular Vari Tube circuit enables you to break completely new ground in compression. The signal gets compressed without any undesirable side effects and receives more depth and power. The smooth transition from linear amplification to compression ensures a well-balanced sound.

Setting for the desired programme is made by separate Attack- and Release-controllers. The compression itself is executed by the Input-controller. The more input the more compression - it‘s as simple as that. The big, illuminated VU-Meters can be switched from output level to gain reduction.

You want to use the Vari Tube Compressor for single signals, too? No sweat! With the Link-switch you can either separate the channels both or link them for stereo processing. For this reason, during recording you can work on two separated signals and then change to stereo mode for mixing. For instance at the output of the Tube Summing Amp - a perfect combination.

What does Vari Tube actually mean?

The operating point of a tube is set by negative DC voltage (the so called Bias). Usually this point is fixed. However, there are special tubes where the internal amplification can be controlled via the Bias. Such tubes are the central element of the Vari Tube Compressor.

From the input signal a special control signal (Sidechain) gets extracted which controls the Bias and thus the amplification of this circuit. Within it also the time parameters “Attack” and “Release” are integrated. This signal then gets routed to the Bias of opposite phase amplifier stages. Crucial here is the exact clocking of the units both. To comply with these demanding requirements the tubes have to be manually selected. Only about one from fifty tested tubes fulfils these high standards. This Vari-Tube-technics was already used for the legendary Fairchild 670 and is still state of the art for musical signal compression.

With the Vari Tube Compressor you compress your sound signals without any disturbing side effects!
